Martyn Konig was appointed as Executive Chairman in November 2017.
Mr. Konig has 30 years’ experience in investment banking and the commodity markets. Until February 2012, he was Executive Chairman and President of European Goldfields Limited. He is a Non-Executive Director of TSX listed New Gold Inc. and was Chief Executive Officer of Blackfish Capital Group from 2005 until August 2009. He has extensive experience in the natural resource sector, which includes senior management responsibility in resource finance and commodity trading operations at various international investment banks.
Mr. Konig was a main Board Director of NM Rothschild & Sons Ltd. for 15 years and held senior positions at Goldman Sachs and UBS. He is a Barrister and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Varshan Gokool was appointed as President & Chief Executive Officer and a director in November 2017.
Varshan was previously the Company’s Chief Financial Officer, appointed in 2012. Prior to that, he was VP and Treasurer at European Goldfields, where he was responsible for the sourcing and execution of debt financing for the Hellas Gold and Certej Projects, tax structuring, financial modelling, insurance and offtake negotiation. He has had a number of corporate and banking mining roles prior to European Goldfields, including being Treasurer at Katanga Mining Limited, a Vice President in Societe Generale’s Mining Finance team and worked for Ashanti Goldfields as a Risk Manager.
Mr. Gokool is a graduate of the University of Cape Town with a B.Bus.Sci (Finance), and is a CFA Charterholder.
Pat Forward was previously VP, Projects & Exploration at European Goldfields, where he was responsible for the development of the Skouries and Olympias projects in Greece, and the Certej project in Romania through feasibility work, basic engineering and financing. In addition, Mr. Forward was responsible for European Goldfields’ exploration properties in Romania, Greece and Turkey and the growth and compliance of that company’s resource and reserve base.
In the early 1990s, he managed exploration projects in Europe, Ghana and Venezuela before spending some five years in Burkina Faso managing exploration programmes including the discovery of Semafo Inc’s 2.8 Moz Mana deposit.
Mr. Forward is also specialised in geological due diligence, resource estimation, the application of GIS systems to exploration projects, deposit evaluation and is a Qualified Person with the respect to NI 43-101 reporting.
Nikola Gulev was appointed as Chief Financial Officer in November 2017.
Mr. Gulev joined Euromax as Group Accountant in July 2015.
Before joining Euromax, Mr. Gulev worked for two years at KPMG in its bookkeeping practice in Skopje, Macedonia. Prior to this, Nikola had roles in internal audit at a Macedonian bank and at PwC in Skopje.
Mr. Gulev holds a Master’s degree from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje for Audit and Accounting, and has been a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in UK since 2014.
Tim Morgan-Wynne was appointed as Non-Executive Director in June 2012 and is Chairman of the Audit Committee.
Mr. Morgan-Wynne was the CFO of European Goldfields until March 2012 and prior to this, he was a Director of the Resources and Energy Group at HSBC Bank plc. He worked in HSBC’s mining sector corporate finance team from 1997 to 2006, and gained a broad experience of corporate finance and capital markets whilst working on transactions involving companies in the UK, Europe, North America and South Africa.
Before HSBC, he worked in the industry as Group Finance Manager for Ashanti Goldfields and Cluff Resources plc.
Raymond Threlkeld was appointed as Non-Executive Director in March 2016.
Mr. Threlkeld has over 30 years of mineral industry experience. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Newmarket Gold Inc. and a Non-Executive Director of New Gold, Inc. From 2009 to 2013, Mr. Threlkeld was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rainy River Resources Ltd. From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Threlkeld was the Chief Operating Officer of Silver Bear Resources Inc. From 2006 to 2009, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Goldfields Inc. From 1996 to 2005, Mr. Threlkeld held various senior management positions in precious metal mine development with Barrick Gold Corporation and Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation including the development of the Pierina Mine in Peru, the Bulyanhulu Mine in Tanzania and the Veladero Mine in Argentina.
Mr. Threlkeld holds a B.Sc. degree in Geology from the University of Nevada.
Mr. Naumovski, a Canadian Citizen born in Macedonia, is a senior executive with broad multi-disciplinary experience, including general management and business development in gold mining and banking. Mr. Naumovski also serves as a Non-Executive Director on boards of Amur Minerals Corporation and Trans-Siberian Gold; both companies are listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market. Mr. Naumovski is an Honorary Member of the Board of Directors of Macedonia 2025 and serves as a Director of the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association and the Canadian Executive Service Organisation.
Mr. Naumovski retired from Kinross Gold Corporation in January 2017, where he served for ten years as Vice President and General Director in Moscow, responsible for Kinross’ Government relations and new business development in Russia. Prior to this role, Mr. Naumovski served as Senior Vice President and General Manager at Visa International Service Organisation and, prior to this as a Senior Banker in the Russian Team and also Resident Representative for the for the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development in Moscow. Mr. Naumovski holds a BA (Honours) in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto and an MA in International Relations (majoring in Russian / Soviet affairs) from the Norman Patterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
Concurrently with Mr. Naumovski’s appointment, Mr. Patrick Forward will step down from the Company’s Board, but will remain in his position as the Company’s Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board’s Technical Committee steering the development of Euromax’s Ilovica-Shtuka project.
Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov was elected as Non-Executive Director in June 2018.
Since 1999, he has been the President of Geotechmin OOD, a leading private company, which has implemented some of the most successful and significant projects in mining industry, construction, road infrastructure and environmental protection in Bulgaria. As President of Geotechmin OOD, Tzolo Voutov has been leading professional teams in advising mining companies and investors on the technical and commercial aspects of mineral property assessment and development.
Throughout his professional career, Tzolo Voutov has held several positions in Ellatzite-Med AD and is now Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Firstly, he started working as a mine surveyor in Ellatzite Copper Mining Company, then he consequently worked as a chief mine surveyor, a chief engineer and a deputy director of the Production and Technical Department at Ellatzite Copper Mine. In 1982 he was appointed as a Research Fellow at Niproruda Institute of Mining and Ore Dressing, Sofia where he worked until 1990.
Tzolo Voutov is Professor of Mining Sciences (World Accrediting Expert Committee at the International Inter-Academic Union, Saint Petersburg, Russia, 2009), Doctor of Science Honoris Causa (Soligorsk Institute of Resource Saving Problems with Pilot Production, Minsk, Republic of Belarus, 2012) and Honorary Professor (University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”, Sofia, Bulgaria, 2014).
The research and engineering contributions of Prof. DSc. Eng. Voutov have placed him among the most renowned mining professionals in the sphere of surface mining of non-ferrous metals. His most significant research findings are related to solving integrated technological and transport problems in open-pit mining. He also participated as a designer in a number of case studies, engineering expert assessments and mining projects.
As Chairman of the Bulgarian Scientific and Technical Union of Mining, Geology and Metallurgy, Vice Chairman of the Balkan Academy of Mining Science and Honorary Member of the International Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress, he has been working in close collaboration with various research and academic institutions.
James Burke was appointed as Non-Executive Director in June 2018.
Mr. Burke joined the Trafigura Group in March 2009 and has 19 years of experience in the mining industry with 17 years of experience in mining M&A/investments and is a senior investment professional in the Galena Private Equity Resources Fund. Prior to joining the Trafigura Group, Mr. Burke worked in the metals and mining corporate finance division at Standard Bank in both London and Sydney and was also a mineral commodities analyst at AME Mineral Economics in Sydney. Mr. Burke is a board member of Cadillac Ventures. Mr. Burke has an Msc in mineral project appraisal and a Bsc in geology from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London.
Alan brings over 35 years of experience in the mining sector and has a proven track record in successful project management and construction. He will take responsibility for developing and leading the on-site owner’s team ready for the construction of the Ilovica project. He previously acted as Project Manager on the Santa Rosa gold deposit in Colombia for Red Eagle Mining where he took responsibility for the project feasibility study and final permitting and on through to project financing. Alan has previously been responsible for:
– Project management of the Certej project in Romania for European Goldfields Ltd and subsequently Eldorado Gold Corp where he helped advanced the project through feasibility, basic engineering and financing;
– The Construction of a heap leach operation including process plant, mine and associated infrastructure of the Copler mine in Eastern Turkey for Anatolia Minerals;
– Managing the design and construction of the Varvarinskoye gold-copper open pit mine, process plant and associated infrastructure in Kazakhstan for European Minerals;
– Overseeing the refurbishment of Bondaye CIL plant at the Bogoso mine in Ghana for Golden Star Resources.
– Project coordination and construction with an annual budget of up to US$100 million at Ashanti Goldfields.
– In his early career Alan worked in the UK, South Africa and Zambia on a variety of mining projects.
